Athletics Ireland has selected a team of 5 athletes to compete at the World Athletics Road Running Championships to be held in Riga, Latvia from 30 September to 1 October.
Shona Heaslip and Fionnuala Ross will compete in the Women’s Half Marathon. Shona comes into this event on the back of a life-time best performance in Larne of 1:10:35 Two-time Olympian Kevin Seaward will lead the men’s contingent in the half-marathon and will be joined by Peter Lynch and Hiko Haso Tonosa.
Athletics Ireland has established the Selection Criteria consistent with its High Performance vision of “more athletes winning on the world stage”, while simultaneously acknowledging the role of the World Athletics Road Running Championships as a qualification opportunity for major championships including the 2024 European Championships and 2024 Olympic Games.
