Chloe MacCombe and Aoibh Clarke have won the World Triathlon Para Cup Abu Dhabi in the Women’s PTVI category.

The Abu Dhabi World Cup race signals the start of the all important Paralympic Cycle, and the first opportunity to earn points towards LA2028 qualification. MacCombe and her guide Clarke put together a consistent performance across all three phases in the Women’s PTVI category, emerging from the swim in 12:32 to lead by over a minute. Out on the three lap bike course, the pair extended their lead and held it all the way to the finish line.

Crossing the line in 1:10:11, Chloe MacCombe and Aoibh Clarke topped the podium with the fastest splits of the day in swim, bike and run. Antiogoni Chariessa Vasilopoulou from Greece and Kyrgyzstan’s Gulnaz Zhuzbaeva completed today’s podium in second and third respectively.

Speaking after the race, Chloe described the pairs performance “It was Aoibh’s first time guiding for a full triathlon, and she did a great job. [There were] Great conditions out there today, the water was a bit choppy yesterday in the recce but it was a lot calmer today, bike was a bit windy and the run was good. Just a really solid race and a good way to start the season.”

Chloe was a guest on podcast in January 2023. She became the first Irish para-triathlete to win a championship medal at the Commonwealth Games taking home a silver medal in 2022. We spoke with Chloe and her twin sister Judith, also an Irish para-triathlete, about their journey in para triathlon and are giving it everything so they can to make it to the Paralympics in Paris in 2024.
